Casting Mexican American families for docuseries

My friend Claresa is casting this - hoping for a family in Texas! (she is based in New York.) If your family qualifies please contact her. Feel free to forward.

NOW CASTING … MEXICAN-AMERICAN FAMILIES
WHO LEAD FASCINATING, EXCITING AND FULFILLING LIVES!
An award-winning production company is searching for families of Mexican-American heritage (who still follow many Mexican traditions) to participate in a docuseries for a well-known cable network. The family must currently live and work in the U.S. and be comfortable sharing their story on-camera. Whether you've just immigrated from Mexico … or your family has been established in the U.S. for several generations, we'd love to learn about the characters in your family and what you're all about!

Please email MexicanAmericanCasting@gmail.com the following to be considered:
- Name;
- Location (City, State);
- Contact info (email, phone numbers);
- Educational background;
- Number of children, if any, and their ages;
- What you do for work;
- What you do for fun;
- Examples of any wild, unusual or amusing Mexican traditions in
your family;
- Brief history of why your family decided to immigrate to the U.S.;
- A few recent photos of you and your family.
The more insight you can give us, the better we're able to get to know you!

Thank you for your time… We look forward to hearing from you.

hike and bike path- pass the info along

A company is requesting a varience in order to build over the existing hike and bike path in the heights.  yea,  that's right,  the new one that they spent all the time and taxpayers money to create.  If this bothers you,  please take a few minutes to write the City of Houston Council members and the mayor to tell them to deny the varience request.  I believe the meeting is today at 1"30 so it is important to write them this morning.

If anyone wants to go to the council session, please let me know and I will go with you or drive us there.

If you'd like to speak before council, please call the City Secretary to schedule 832.393.1100. Council session begins at 1:30 p.m.

thank you

Dear Mayor Parker:

I am writing to express opposition to the Variance Requests submitted by Gene Carroll and Associates, L.P. for the 84-unit Emes Place condominium development sited alongside White Oak bayou and the existing Heights Hike and Bike Trail.

This development proposes to have a single “private street”, specifically a bridge, accessing the condominiums. The request for “private” designation allows the developer to forgo a safe sidewalk on this vehicular bridge. How will the mobility impaired, children and mothers with strollers access this development? Designating something “private” in order to skirt providing safe pedestrian access puts the public at risk.

In addition, this bridge over a drainage ditch creates a single access point into the development. The White Oak bayou is flood prone. The nearby Yale Street bridge floods over its deck. What will happen if this bridge floods? How will emergency vehicles access the development? How will residents? If this becomes a known hazard, will residential parking spill over into the neighborhood?

This parcel of land has largely remained undeveloped because of the site limitations and existing conditions. The City of Houston should not approve variances that allow developers to skirt existing regulations that provide public safety protections and reduce negative impacts.

Please deny the Variance Requests for the Emes Place condominium.

Sincerely,

Fwd: Tickets Now on Sale for Your Big Night Out for Thursday, September 27th.

To my peeps in Austin!

Subject: Tickets Now on Sale for Your Big Night Out for Thursday, September 27th.

Hello Friends!

As most of you know, I've been working alongside the rest of the Board at LHH  to put together a fun night out, worthy of paying the babysitter, to host a different kind of fundraiser for Little Helping Hands.  No seated dinner at a round table eating chicken, listening to an auctioneer.  This is a classically Austin event:  We'll have an awesome live band (Gourds front man Kevin Russell and his other band Shinyribs), great food from Ranch 616, among others, and a fun downtown venue with a great rooftop bar.  So please call your friends and make it a date night, a couple's night, a girl/guy's night out or just come hang with me and my friends and have a fun night out for a very worthy cause.  Last year alone, our young Little Helping volunteers:

·      Donated and prepared more than 9,500 meal servings/food items for the homeless, workingpoor and children or families experiencing traumatic times.

·      Spent more than 1,800 hours sorting, bagging or assembling donations such as clothes, food and school supplies.

·      Logged more than 500 hours visiting with the elderly, setting up apartments for newly arriving refugees, and helping out at charitable events.

·      Broke down approximately 700 computers for recycling and reuse.

·      Spent more than 1,700 hours on city/park clean-ups and other environmental or beautification projects.

In addition to our great report card from last year, I will be spearheading a new project to bring volunteer opportunities to children in underserved areas who otherwise, might not get the learning experience or self-esteem builder of helping others.  More on that to come.

So, I'm asking you all, my friends, to help me spread the word to your friends! (and to the rest of mine I am inadvertently leaving off of this e-mail :).   I will be sending out more e-mails to various groups today that you may end up on, so my apologies in advance for any duplicates you get!  And thank you so much to those that have already purchased tickets!!

Thank you,
Jill
